Mr. Simovski has been teaching AP Government, American Government and American History at South Lyon High School for twenty years. He has a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Michigan in Political Science and History. He has a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Michigan. He was the 2007 Michigan Civic Educator of the Year and 2009 Michigan Social Studies Educator of the Year. He has been at the forefront of advancing Social Studies in his classroom and within the community. For his contributions, he was awarded the 2010 University of Michigan-Dearborn School of Education Alumnus of the Year.
Mr. Simovski makes Social Studies come alive in his classroom by bringing in guest speakers and having students attend local government meetings. He provides interactive lessons for the students to learn the material in a fun and exciting manner.
Mr. Simovski was the head translator for the United States military in Macedonia from 1998-1999 and is fluent in 5 languages. He worked with many people in the U.S. Government such as Secretary of Defense William Cohen, Secretary of State Madeline Albright, Vice President Al Gore, General Wesley Clark and many more. He also met Senators Carl Levin, John Warner and others while on a fact-finding mission.
Mr. Simovski stays on top of the latest political headlines and incorporates them into his lessons. He has also been to Washington D.C. numerous times and brings first-hand knowledge of the Federal Government to his class. Mr. Simovski was part of the inaugural group of educators who served as teacher fellows in 2009 and is currently an ambassador for The Henry Ford. He also has attended several NEH (National Endowment for the Humanities) and Gilder Lehrman Conferences across the country to enhance his content knowledge. Mr. Simovski is a guest lecturer at the University of Michigan-School of Education. In addition, he has created High School lessons that use primary sources for the Library of Congress website.
